THE MODERN LIFE BY LOWRY

Posted on

Industrial Panorama by Bristish artist L.S.Lowry…

The Tate Britain features a major exhibition of paintings by the Bristish artist L.S.Lowry (Laurence Stephen Lowry, Lancashire, England1887-Derbyshare, England 1976).

Lowry and the Painting of Modern Life showcases a splendid set of landscapes and urban scenes painted by the artist, and reflects the street life in the industrial cities.

Lowry had a distinctive and unique painting style widely recognized with its slender and stylized human figures, dark colours, industrial fog and urban landscapes.

The paintings of Lowry reveal the connections with the oeuvre of well known colleagues such as George Seurat, Maurice Utrillo and Camille Pissarro, among others.

The exhibition Lowry and the Painting of Modern Life will be on display until next 20 October.

A proposed plan offered by Samir Bhattacharya

To the viewers,

From ‘Bengal School’ to the 50’s ‘Society of Contemporary Artists’ Group’

I am planning a book on the history of painting and sculpture in Bengal during the period roughly 1900-60, which is loosely referred to as the ‘modern period’ of Bengal Art, especially keeping into mind the contribution of artists who were from Bengal or were working here. However, this is not going to be a history book in the strict sense, but more of a textual space where artists, poets and people from other intellectual fields will put forward their opinion.

So, this effort may not succeed without your participation. I earnestly ask for your cooperation.
